Tsukiji fish market

The Tokyo Metropolitan Central Wholesale Market, commonly known as Tsukiji fish market is the biggest wholesale fish and seafood market in the world and also one of the largest wholesale food markets. The market handles more than 400 different types of seafood

The market is located in Tsukiji in central Tokyo, and it is a major attraction for foreign visitors (of course for Japanese casually visit the market too).

The Tsukiji fish market is located near the Tsukijishijo- Station on the Oedo subway line and Tsukiji Station on the Hibiya subway line. There are two sections of the market as a whole.

The "inner market" is the licensed wholesale market, where the auctions and most of the processing of the fish take place, and where licensed wholesale dealers operate small stalls.

The "outer market" is a mixture of wholesale and retail shops that sell Japanese kitchen tools, restaurant supplies, and seafood, and many restaurants, especially sushi restaurants. Most of the shops in the outer market close by the early afternoon, and in the inner market even earlier. The most interesting time to come at is 5 am.

Tsukiji fish market is one of the exciting place for foreign visitors in Japan. Also there are many good restaurants especially sushi restaurants around the Tsukiji fish market.

The market opens most mornings except Sundays and holidays.
