Shinkansen EX-IC Service

This is very convenient service for Tokaido Shinkansen(between Tokyo and Osaka).


You can book the seat of Tokaido Shinkansen with your PC, and you can take the Shinkansen without any cash and ticket. So after booking the seat, you can take the Shinkansen with only one card.


The service has started from E/Mar 2008. I used this service several times and it looks good service.

Shinkansen booking and ticket

There are some way to buy a Shinkansen ticket or other JR ticket in JR stations.


-Midori-no-madoguchi(JR Reservation Ticket Offices)-

Regular tickets, limited express tickets and reserved Green Car tickets for all Shinkansen lines and Limited Express trains in Japan are sold at JR Reservation Ticket Offices in the station. You can buy a Shinkansen ticket, both reservation seat or non-reservation seat with your credit card.



-View Plaza(Travel Service Center)-

In addition to tickets for JR lines, domestic air tickets, ferry tickets, long-distance bus tickets and tickets for various events are also available at View Plazas in the station. You can buy a Shinkansen ticket, both reservation seat or non-reservation seat with your credit card.



-Automatic Ticket Vending Machines-

There are some type of Automatic Ticket Vending Machines.

Tickets for short distance trips
This type of machines are very usual so you can see many machines in the all stations. You can buy a tickets with Japanese coin or bank bill.


Tickets for long distance trips include Shinkansen, Limited Express trains.
This type of machine are high-performance and placed in the large stations. The display shows not only Japanese but also English. If you have a credit card issued in Japan, you can use your credit card too. You can buy a Shinkansen ticket, both reservation seat or non-reservation seat.

If you can read Japanese, you can book a Shinkansen ticket at the web site of Ekinet. After booking, you will get the paper ticket at the station.
